PAY FOR PIZZA WITH PAYPAL – DOMINO’S ANNOUNCES NEW ONLINE PAYMENT METHOD

Domino’s, the local pizza delivery expert, has made ordering a pizza online even quicker and easier by linking up with PayPal.

Following customer feedback, Domino’s has launched PayPal as its newest payment method for pizza. Customers in the UK simply need to log in to their PayPal account once they’ve placed their pizza order, enabling them to pay just by entering their email address and password.

PayPal is free to use on all Domino’s orders and is a great way for people to buy pizza for friends and family too – perfect if you’ve mouths to feed who are away at university or even if you just fancy treating someone to dinner.

Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director for Domino’s, said: “Online orders account for an increasingly large proportion of our sales and as part of this, we are continually looking for ways to improve the process and make it even more user-friendly. Our customers and Facebook fans told us they wanted an easier way to pay – we listened to them and we’re now pleased to introduce PayPal, which is fast, safe and secure. It’s great to be able to offer our customers the option of using PayPal to pay for pizza in just a couple of clicks!”

Cameron McLean, general manager, merchant services at PayPal, said: “We welcome Domino’s on board as our latest high street partner and one of the first pizza delivery companies to join us. This innovative partnership is a natural step for both companies, given Domino’s phenomenal growth in online orders and PayPal’s extensive experience with large retailers.”

Domino’s link up with PayPal will be communicated to pizza lovers and PayPal users through a range of digital platforms including social media, email and online advertisements.

Crowes Complete Print adopt creative strategy for growth

Having assessed the depressed state of the printing industry, Norwich-based Crowes Complete Print has embarked on a multi-pronged strategy to secure their long-term future and provide additional sources of income and profit. In addition to implementing a company-wide review of purchasing and efficiency, Crowes who offer various Brochure Printing services, have absorbed a small printing business from Wymondham, launched their own decoupage range and acquired a 50% share of a historic paper-craft company.

As Managing Director Simon Tilbrook explains, the printing industry is contracting rapidly so you have to think outside the box just to survive. “There’s no question that the growth of the Internet has seen a significant decline in the demand for conventional printing,” he comments. “As a result, we have had to look at all our internal processes to maximise our efficiency, and that has proved to be a very useful activity for us. But it’s not just about cutting costs – as a board we decided to explore other ways of generating new income and, therefore, growing the business.

Acquiring another existing printing business is one of the more conventional ways of upscaling, but as Simon Tilbrook points out, there aren’t too many printers who would take the bold step of launching their own range of decoupage papers. “Some people might question our sanity, but launching our own decoupage range under the Phoenix Papercraft brand made perfect sense to us. Not only have we effectively diversified into another industry, we have developed a brand which relies on printed materials, all of which we print and finish in-house.”

Perhaps most interesting of all in Crowes’ strategy for growth, though, is its bold purchase of the stock and intellectual property of historic paper-craft company Mamelok, which went into liquidation 12 months ago. As Simon Tilbrook outlines, it’s been a fascinating journey so far. “Mamelok is a very well-established brand, dating back to nineteenth-century Wroclaw in Poland, and is known for its Victorian scrap booking materials, paper masks, dress-up dolls and friezes & garlands. When Mamelok Press went into liquidation at the end of last year, we joined forces with Philip Saich – MD of design and marketing agency Postscript – and his wife Karen to purchase the stock and intellectual property. Since then we have been building Mamelok back up again, and the print work arising from this adventure has been astounding – Mamelok is already one of our largest accounts, and we have very ambitious plans for the future.”

Reflecting on what has been a challenging but rewarding 2010 – and considering the demise of numerous companies offering Printing Services – Simon Tilbrook is looking forward to 2011 with optimism and excitement. “We can’t wait for the new year,” he concludes. “As well as growing our two Papercraft brands, we will continue to refine our working practices and increase our profitability. In a difficult market we are confident of bucking the trend.”

Who says UK manufacture is DEAD? Component Seals to smash sales records.

September 22, 2010 – If manufacture in the UK is “dead”, nobody told AESSEAL plc: a producer of precision engineered mechanical seals and other machine equipment. Their Component Seals division alone (a small portion of group sales) is on track to break $10 million this year

The parent company, AESSEAL, has its largest manufacture plant is in Rotherham, UK. The secret to their success sounds very strange to the manufacturing industry: they say it’s all about service- and research and development. A statesman quoted the country’s mantra: “To deliver such exceptional service that our customers need never consider alternative sources of supply.”

Maybe the key to making manufacture work in a Western country then is to focus on precise engineering, service, and expertise, leaving the mass-produced, imprecise products to the developing nations. And of course, it helps to have an international presence: AESSEAL has offices in 32 countries, spreading their risk to specific currencies and economic trends.

Investment, the company says, is also crucial. For instance, the company has recently invested in two machines worth over $1.1 million each, and continues a very active research and development programme: reinvesting literally millions of dollars per year in further improving the designs. The company has 54 patents granted, with a further 46 pending, and operates 158 trademarks.

Mechanical seals are used in pumping equipment, to keep the material being pumped from contaminating the external environment, and vice-versa. Applications range from simple, mass-produced seals of the kind that keep your washing machine from leaking, all the way through to customised high-end, gas tight seals which play crucial roles in industrial refineries; preventing explosions and other serious hazards.

Component seals are pre-assembled, and designed to be fitted easily to specific makes and models of pump, and tend to be smaller, simpler and cheaper than their heavyweight counterparts. In this market, information is key: “We spend a lot on IT”, the company says, “we have custom software to help us match the exact right seal to the environment. Important factors in selecting a seal include the speed of the pump (shaft RPM), typical operating temperature, the pressure of both the material being sealed and the barrier fluid outside, the fluid… it’s all very technical, and has to be just right.” But most of all, the company says, “You need to be a world class expert on your product. It is where expertise meets manufacture that the UK can succeed.”
