Team Member Presented With Special Olympics Award By Domino’s

Domino’s Pizza team member, Lindsay Woods, has been presented with an award for her support and contribution towards Domino’s Pizza’s national charity, Special Olympics Great Britain.  Domino’s awards ceremony took place on Thursday, March 29, at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.

Lindsay Woods, who works at the Preston Bamber Bridge Domino’s store, decided to organise a ‘wobble walk’ in aid of Special Olympics Great Britain.  The idea was to walk from the Domino’s store in Chorley to the Domino’s store in Thornton Cleveleys, making sure to go via the stores located in Preston and Blackpool along the way, while wearing Domino’s wobble boards!  Lindsay roped in the region of 40 people to take part in the activity and the group donned Domino’s wobble boards before they set off on their long walk.

It was a brilliant idea – not only did she raise money for the charity – but she also raised fantastic brand awareness along the way.  It was a huge challenge but one that was successfully executed and Lindsay resulted in raising £1,000 for the charity.  Some athletes from Special Olympics Great Britain also participated as they were so impressed with what Lindsay was doing.
Chief Executive for Special Olympics Great Britain, Karen Wallin, said: “Lindsay’s idea was fantastic!  We are always amazed at the lengths some Domino’s team members go to in order to raise money for Special Olympics Great Britain.   The money raised has been invaluable to the local club near Preston.  We are grateful to Lindsay for thinking up this idea and for organising it so well.  She is a very worthy winner.”
Lindsay Woods said:  “I am so pleased to win this award.  I came up with the idea as I thought it was a bit different and would be lots of fun – as well as raise money for such a great charity.  It was hard work walking all that way, but we received some great support along the route and it was a pleasure to have some of the athletes join in.” Mohammed Amin, franchisee for Domino’s Pizza said: “I am very proud of Lindsay.  Her hard work has been deservedly recognised and I am so pleased for her.”

Domino’s Pizza’s annual awards recognise the talents and hard work of the franchisees and in-store team members from the Company’s 732 stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany.

Staff from Domino’s Pizza’s head office visited HULA [Home for Unwanted and Lost Animals] on Friday, March 9, to volunteer their services in helping the charity to create an animal reception area.

HULA wanted to use the two spare rooms in their back office facility to create a new animal handover area.  They needed help to de-clutter and decorate these rooms so they were fit for use and called on Domino’s help.

Domino’s Pizza has been an active supporter of this local animal charity for three years now.  During this time volunteers from Domino’s have helped to rejuvenate the dog kennels, makeover the reception area and now create a new animal handover area.  The Domino’s DIY SOS team was only too keen to get involved in this latest project and spent the day painting, cleaning, de-cluttering and re-organising the two rooms to create an area for animals to be handed over to their new owners.  With some forward planning and inspiration the Domino’s volunteers performed a changing room style makeover to the two rooms and by the end of the day the area was looking shiny and new and ready for use.

Karina Collins, Operations Director for HULA, said:  “We were amazed at just what the staff from Domino’s managed to achieve in one day!  Their help has been invaluable to us and we are overwhelmed by their generosity and hard work.  We are so pleased with the final result and feel we can really benefit from this change.  We have wanted to create a space for the purpose of animal handovers for some time now.  This new area will ensure that people can come and collect their new pets in peace, away from the main reception.  The animal will be more relaxed and the process in general will be a lot more professional.”

Angie Lawrence, PR Officer, for Domino’s said:  “As a Company we encourage all our team members to donate a day to helping out a local charity.  I visited HULA not so long ago to adopt two cats and I have established a good relationship with them ever since.  They are a struggling local charity that needs help from local companies to survive.  We were pleased to help – the team got stuck in and worked really hard to renovate the two spare rooms.  We all had lots of fun meeting the animals and are pleased to know we have made such a difference.”

Thanks also go to CD Wright Electrical, CS Cleaning and WJR Management Limited for their services on the day.

The volunteers all enjoyed their day at HULA and had time while they were there to visit the animals which included Frankie the pig and Suzi the goat.  It was a memorable day for all concerned and a worthwhile activity which will hopefully bring good results for HULA.

Domino’s Pizza’s Customers Make A Million Donations To Charity – Domino’s Customers Are All Heart As They Share Their Pennies

Domino’s customers have shown that they are all heart by rounding up the price of their orders, a cool one million times, and donating their ‘spare change’ to charity.  Domino’s Pizza joined forces with The Pennies Foundation, the creators of the micro-donation scheme Pennies, the electronic charity box, in November 2010 and since then customers have raised over £230,000 for UK charities.

Domino’s nominated charity, Special Olympics Great Britain, benefits from 75% of the money raised in Great Britain, while the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice receives 75% of the money raised in Northern Ireland.  The remaining 25% is shared amongst other UK charities, including Shelter, Together for Short Lives and NSPCC.

Pennies, the electronic charity box, is designed to make giving to charity easy, quick and affordable.  With one touch of a button shoppers can choose to round up their payment to the nearest pound when they pay by debit card, credit card or electronically. To date the most common amount donated by Domino’s customers has been 1p, demonstrating how quickly those pennies add up.

Lance Batchelor, CEO of Domino’s Pizza said: “We are delighted that the Pennies scheme has been so well received by our customers.  It is fantastic news to hear that we have received one million donations and that so many charities will benefit from our customers’ generosity.  In these times of economic hardship it is heart warming to know that people are still happy to share what they have.  We are very proud and grateful to our customers.”

About Pennies:
The Pennies Foundation, a registered charity, has created Pennies, the electronic charity box. We’re all familiar with the idea of dropping our change into the charity box sitting on the shop counter. The electronic charity box is exactly the same idea but it works instead when we pay by card or electronically. That means that it works just as well for online or high-street shopping.

Pennies makes giving to charity easy and affordable for all: customers can simply press ‘YES’ on the Chip and PIN machine in-store, or click the ‘Donate’ button online.  The request is for micro-donations – literally a few pennies (1p-99p) – either by rounding up or topping up. Pennies launched with its first retailer, Domino’s Pizza in November 2010.  Since then a number of major retailers have also adopted Pennies including Travelodge, Zizzi and The Entertainer.  A significant number of new retailers will be launching in 2012.
