English Heritage launches its largest ever Autumn/Winter events programme in the West Midlands

English Heritage has unveiled details of its most extensive autumn/winter event programme ever, incorporating a host of brand new workshops, walks and activities to bring more visitors into its historic sites around the West Midlands.

“Our events during school holiday times are always created to offer wide-ranging appeal, but over the winter months, we’re going to be hosting activities linked to many different niche interests – from cookery to photography – alongside family fun,” comments English Heritage’s regional events manager, Karen Pike. “We’ve got some wonderful indoor spaces at sites like Kenilworth Castle and Wroxeter Roman City which we’ll be putting to good use over the winter months to stage some brand new events.”

Highlights of the autumn/winter programme include:

• A photowalk around the grounds of Witley Court with professional landscape photographer, Nick Meers, offering support and guidance on how to make the most of your digital camera (Friday 18 November & Friday 24 February 2012)
• A Christmas cake decorating workshop at Kenilworth Castle, under the expert tutelage of sugarcraft teacher Lynne Rigby (Thursday 8 December)
• Traditional games and toy-making workshops at Kenilworth Castle, from 27 to 30 December – a perfect Christmas gift for the whole family!
• Author debates at Wroxeter Roman City, looking at the implications of Rome’s great fire, and the Eagle of the XIIth (26 January 2012 and 28 February 2012)

Visitors will also be able to explore Kenilworth Castle after dark with a series of themed ghost tours around the site every month – from Halloween horrors to a Valentine tour guaranteed to have couples of all ages leaping into each others’ arms in fright!

A full list of all of English Heritage’s autumn/winter event programme is available on the English Heritage website, www.english-heritage.org.uk/events or for a leaflet, please call customer services on 0870 333 1183.
