Bali Bains, an area manager for Domino’s Pizza, decided to get on his bike last week and raise money for Help for Heroes. Bali is area manager for the Domino’s Pizza stores located in Penzance, St. Austell, Truro, Falmouth and Newquay. Bali began his journey on Monday, May 14 at the Domino’s Pizza store in Penzance and rode all the way to the Domino’s head office in Milton Keynes, reaching his destination on Friday, May 18.

Bali Bains cycles from Penzance to Milton Keynes for charit

Bali rode into Domino’s head office car park on Friday morning and was given his own hero’s welcome from the cheering crowd of Domino’s head office staff, who were there to applaud his achievement. Bali raised over £1500 for the charity.

Domino’s pro-actively encourages its employees to raise money for worthy causes on a local and national level. Nationally, Domino’s Pizza’s charity of choice is Special Olympics Great Britain. It also supports Pennies, the electronic charity box, where customers are able to donate money to many worthy causes at the click of a button.

Bali chose to support Help for Heroes as he realises the amazing work this charity does for the many servicemen and women who are injured in the call of duty. Bali Bains said: “I am a big supporter of Help for Heroes and wanted to do something to help this cause. I thought riding my bike from the store in Penzance to the head office in Milton Keynes was a huge challenge – but one I was determined to do. I am so pleased to have achieved my goal and hope the money I have raised will make a difference. My legs need a few days to recover now though!”

Bryn Parry OBE, Co-founder of Help for Heroes, said: “Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 to raise money to help support our wounded. Bali’s cycle from Penzance to the Domino’s head office in Milton Keynes is a great example of getting out there and doing your bit. The money raised helps to provide facilities and services that will improve the recovery of those injured on duty. The money Bali raised is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated.”

National Treasure Dame Edna Everage and her adoring manager Barry Humphries get serious about their health and pledge to shed 33lbs each with JENNY CRAIG and their healthy diet plans. With the megastar and her manager about to embark on their farewell tour, Edna states the dramatic change is necessary in the interests of their health and, as role models, the health of their public.

Jenny Craig Launches New Ambassadors: Dame Edna & Barry Humphries!

“Possums, Barry and I both appreciate the influence we have over our adoring public. Just like the Beckhams, people follow and copy our every move. And lately, well let’s be brutally honest, we’ve let ourselves go and haven’t been good role models. I have a wardrobe full of breathtaking gowns but I have to hold my breath to wear them …only three gowns fit me these days. When I’m on stage, I have to suck in my tummy because I fear my dress will burst at the seams. Just like my dear friend Mel B, I’m hoping to get my pre-baby body back! While that was many years ago the outcome should be the same with the help of JENNY CRAIG.

“I’ve always had a nice little double chin, but recently it’s turned into a quadruple chin. I want to live a long time and I am ready for JENNY CRAIG,” said Edna.

Barry Humphries also worries about Edna’s weight. “We were in London recently and Edna’s looks were savaged by one critic in particular who described her as rather ‘tubby’. Well, that was a wake up call for both of us, especially with our so-called “farewell” tour, ‘Eat, Pray, Laugh’, about to start in June.

“We want everyone to rally behind us on Jenny’s ‘Edna Forever’ campaign. Edna is a legend; she deserves the very best. We may be approaching our early twilight years – or as I like to call them, our ‘after lunch years’ – but Edna has some sage advice to impart regardless of your age,” said Mr Humphries.

Barry also admits he has his own problems with food and will be supporting Edna and encouraging all men to think about their health.

“I have a problem with food and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Don’t forget, you can get help. There’s no shame in a man getting help. It’s a shame if you don’t!“

After finishing the New York marathon in 2006, seven time Tour De France champion cyclist Lance Armstrong described it as “the hardest physical thing” he had ever done. According to Runners World, approximately forty percent of marathon entrants in 2011 were first timer marathoners. First time runners need to do long-term planning, stick to a rigorous training schedule and eat a balanced diet for at least four months before a marathon. Based on 23 years worth of data, Peak Performance, an information website for athletes and coaches, reported one in six runners came in to contact with St John’s ambulance, one in 800 visit a hospital accident and emergency department and one in 10,000 were admitted to hospital. In 2006, reality television celebrity Jade Goody was hospitalised while attempting the London marathon without adequate training. Leave your footprint in your marathon by training properly with our running shoes.

Domino’s Pizza manager Dejan Vukelic has scooped a national Delivering More award from Domino’s Pizza at the Company’s recent awards ceremony that took place on Thursday, March 29, at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.

Dejan Vukelic receiving his award from Domino’s Pizza CEO Lance Batchelor

Domino’s Delivering More award is given to a store or individual who has gone above and beyond in their commitment and enthusiasm to promote the brand, as well as recognising how important it is to make a connection with their local community. It is also about displaying passion and dedication to providing excellent customer service.

Dejan, who works at the Domino’s Pizza store based in Cowley, Oxford, was a real inspiration, as he earned himself a place in the Delivering More hall of fame by saving a man’s life. Domino’s talks about delivering more to the local community, about going above and beyond to support local residents – well Dejan did just that. While making a delivery he witnessed a man hanging over the side of a bridge. Not what you would normally see while making a delivery, but this man was extremely distressed, he was suicidal in fact and on the verge of jumping to this death. He was struggling to see a way out and was being uncooperative with the Police, who were attempting to talk him down.

Dejan listened to this poor man’s story, he empathised with him and managed to calm him down. They ended up sitting and chatting together like friends, he even offered him some pizza. With Dejan’s help the man climbed to safety. Dejan’s brave act saved the man’s life and he was rewarded with a commendation by the Thames Valley Police, who realise that without Dejan’s help this man may have jumped from the bridge.

Dejan Vukelic said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this award. I was not expecting it and was very shocked to hear my name. I love working for Domino’s, it is an exciting and vibrant company and you get out of it what you put in. I was just passing by this incident and I stepped in to see if I could help. It was never my intention to be a hero, I just wanted to do all I could to help this poor man. I am so glad to have made such a difference.”

Domino’s Pizza franchisee, Dorian Xhemali, added: “We are all very proud of Dejan. He is a real asset to our team and a fantastic ambassador for the brand. He is a very humble person, who still thinks what he did was something anyone else would do! He really deserves this award.”

Domino’s Pizza’s annual awards recognise the talents and hard work of the franchisees and in-store team members from the company’s 732 stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany.

Domino’s Pizza team member, Lindsay Woods, has been presented with an award for her support and contribution towards Domino’s Pizza’s national charity, Special Olympics Great Britain. Domino’s awards ceremony took place on Thursday, March 29, at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales.

Lindsay Woods receiving her award from Domino’s Pizza CEO Lance Batchelor

Lindsay Woods, who works at the Preston Bamber Bridge Domino’s store, decided to organise a ‘wobble walk’ in aid of Special Olympics Great Britain. The idea was to walk from the Domino’s store in Chorley to the Domino’s store in Thornton Cleveleys, making sure to go via the stores located in Preston and Blackpool along the way, while wearing Domino’s wobble boards! Lindsay roped in the region of 40 people to take part in the activity and the group donned Domino’s wobble boards before they set off on their long walk.

It was a brilliant idea – not only did she raise money for the charity – but she also raised fantastic brand awareness along the way. It was a huge challenge but one that was successfully executed and Lindsay resulted in raising £1,000 for the charity. Some athletes from Special Olympics Great Britain also participated as they were so impressed with what Lindsay was doing.
Chief Executive for Special Olympics Great Britain, Karen Wallin, said: “Lindsay’s idea was fantastic! We are always amazed at the lengths some Domino’s team members go to in order to raise money for Special Olympics Great Britain. The money raised has been invaluable to the local club near Preston. We are grateful to Lindsay for thinking up this idea and for organising it so well. She is a very worthy winner.”
Lindsay Woods said: “I am so pleased to win this award. I came up with the idea as I thought it was a bit different and would be lots of fun – as well as raise money for such a great charity. It was hard work walking all that way, but we received some great support along the route and it was a pleasure to have some of the athletes join in.” Mohammed Amin, franchisee for Domino’s Pizza said: “I am very proud of Lindsay. Her hard work has been deservedly recognised and I am so pleased for her.”

Domino’s Pizza’s annual awards recognise the talents and hard work of the franchisees and in-store team members from the Company’s 732 stores in the UK, Ireland and Germany.

About Special Olympics Great Britain:

Special Olympics Great Britain is the country’s largest provider of a year-round sports training and competition programme for all people with learning disabilities giving every individual the opportunity to take part, train and compete in a variety of 23 Olympic-type sports. The charity enables each participant to develop skills, believe in themselves and be active members of their communities.

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that all people with learning disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from sport. The value of sport lies in its ability to instil self-confidence and self-belief.
Beating stiff competition from Domino’s stores across the UK and Ireland, Ajay was awarded the title for his hard work and dedication to ensuring that customers receive piping hot pizza and his commitment to helping look after the safety of his fellow delivery drivers.

Ajay has worked for Domino’s on Uxbridge Road for almost two years. His positive attitude, excellent safety record and sheer love for the brand make him a joy to have around. His franchisee describes
him as polite, enthusiastic, honest and reliable. He is always ready to help new drivers and is a big fan of Domino’s wobble boarding. With 2,500 safe delivering hours under his belt and customers talking
of his courteous and helpful manner it is no wonder he is this year’s winner.

Ajay Shrestha, Domino’s Delivery Driver of the Year, said: “I am delighted to win this award. Delivering pizza in all weathers and driving conditions can be a challenge but the smile you get from a customer when you knock on their door makes it all worthwhile. I thoroughly enjoy my job and to be crowned Delivery Driver of the Year is a fantastic achievement.”

Sarmah Shakarchi, franchisee for the Shepherds Bush store said: “We are all very proud of Ajay. It is a tough competition, so for him to win makes us all very happy. He is a real asset to our team and is always professional, providing first class customer service. He really deserves this award.”

Domino’s iPhone and Android mobile ordering apps have been shortlisted in the Best Food and Cooking category. The shortlist is compiled by over a thousand Carphone Warehouse staff from across the UK who suggested their favourite apps in the first stages of nominations. Entries from Carphone Warehouse staff were then debated by a panel of expert judges, who carefully selected the top five apps for each category to go through to public voting.

Simon Wallis, sales and marketing director of Domino’s Pizza, said: “We’re always looking for convenient new ways for our customers to order and first launched online ordering over 10 years ago. Mobile was the obvious next step for us and since launching our apps, the number of downloads and sales through these channels has been phenomenal. Mobile currently accounts for 14% of our online sales.

“We’re over the moon to be shortlisted for this award, which has been voted for by staff at Carphone Warehouse and a panel of expert judges. When it comes to mobiles and apps, these guys really know their stuff so we’re very pleased to have been selected. We designed our apps to be fun, fast and easy to use and hope our mobile customers will vote with their fingers for us in the Appys.”

Public voting is now open. To register your vote for Domino’s, log onto www.appys.com. Closing date for votes is 31st March 2012 and winners will be announced on 25th April.
