Bali Bains, an area manager for Domino’s Pizza, decided to get on his bike last week and raise money for Help for Heroes. Bali is area manager for the Domino’s Pizza stores located in Penzance, St. Austell, Truro, Falmouth and Newquay. Bali began his journey on Monday, May 14 at the Domino’s Pizza store in Penzance and rode all the way to the Domino’s head office in Milton Keynes, reaching his destination on Friday, May 18.

Bali Bains cycles from Penzance to Milton Keynes for charit

Bali rode into Domino’s head office car park on Friday morning and was given his own hero’s welcome from the cheering crowd of Domino’s head office staff, who were there to applaud his achievement. Bali raised over £1500 for the charity.

Domino’s pro-actively encourages its employees to raise money for worthy causes on a local and national level. Nationally, Domino’s Pizza’s charity of choice is Special Olympics Great Britain. It also supports Pennies, the electronic charity box, where customers are able to donate money to many worthy causes at the click of a button.

Bali chose to support Help for Heroes as he realises the amazing work this charity does for the many servicemen and women who are injured in the call of duty. Bali Bains said: “I am a big supporter of Help for Heroes and wanted to do something to help this cause. I thought riding my bike from the store in Penzance to the head office in Milton Keynes was a huge challenge – but one I was determined to do. I am so pleased to have achieved my goal and hope the money I have raised will make a difference. My legs need a few days to recover now though!”

Bryn Parry OBE, Co-founder of Help for Heroes, said: “Help for Heroes was launched in October 2007 to raise money to help support our wounded. Bali’s cycle from Penzance to the Domino’s head office in Milton Keynes is a great example of getting out there and doing your bit. The money raised helps to provide facilities and services that will improve the recovery of those injured on duty. The money Bali raised is needed, it is being used and it is hugely appreciated.”

Sussex-based Vent-Axia, a leader in low carbon technology, is celebrating winning the Air Movement Product of Year category in this year’s prestigious H&V News Awards. Scooping the industry award for its revolutionary Lo-Carbon Tempra, the company received the accolade at an awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. Attended by over 1,000 influential heating and ventilation specialists from across the whole supply chain the event was hosted by TV stand-up comedian and writer Simon Evans.

The H&V News Awards recognises and rewards the achievements of the UK’s diverse heating and ventilating sector with the winners selected by an expert panel of judges. After a rigorous judging process, Vent-Axia won the award for Air Movement Product of the Year for its pioneering Lo-Carbon Tempra single room heat recovery unit which offers the benefits of both continuous ventilation and heat recovery.

Part of the company’s innovative Lo-Carbon™ initiative, Vent-Axia’s revolutionary Lo-Carbon Tempra is the UK’s first single room heat recovery unit which can be simply retrofitted through a 100mm diameter hole in the wall. This allows standard traditional inefficient extract fans to be easily replaced with this discreet, low energy, continuously running alternative that also offers affordable heat recovery.

Lee Nurse, Marketing Director at Vent-Axia, commented: “We are very proud to have been acknowledged for our pioneering Lo-Carbon Tempra. Britain has the oldest housing stock in the developed World with 8.5 million properties over 60 years old therefore offering significant opportunities to improve indoor air quality and building performance while cutting carbon emissions. Single room heat recovery makes heat recovery more accessible and affordable for existing homes and so offers huge potential carbon reductions.”

Providing up to 80% heat recovery, the Tempra is the only unit of its type which can be retrofitted through a 100mm diameter hole in the wall. This enables standard bathroom, kitchen, toilet or utility room fans to be easily changed for a Tempra without the need to make the hole any larger, saving substantially on installation time and cost.

Central to the Tempra’s compact footprint required to fit in a 100mm diameter hole is its double wheel motorised impellers. The innovative technology allows for just one motor to be used with an extended shaft to drive two impellers to achieve double flow requirements, resulting in a very energy efficient solution. The unit’s performance, taken together with Tempra’s integral Lo-Carbon™ DC motor, brings significant energy savings and will help reduce a home’s carbon footprint.

Discreet and quiet in operation, Tempra can be set to run continuously at 6 l/s or 9 l/s, boosting up to 13 l/s if required. For intermittent extract applications, the unit can be set to operate at 15 l/s. It also incorporates a manual summer setting to ensure that when it is warm outside, it operates on extract only. This eliminates the risk of the home overheating in hot summer weather.

The Tempra is part of Vent-Axia’s Lo-Carbon™ collection. The aim of the Lo-Carbon initiative is to offer the latest low carbon ventilation technology in order to reduce building energy consumption and so carbon emissions. For further information on all products and services offered by Vent-Axia telephone 0844 856 0590.

Sussex, UK (24th April, 2012) – With many of the low-cost airlines introducing new ‘booking’ fees during 2012, Airport Parking and Hotels (www.aph.com) has updated their extra charges research to help travellers plan ahead and keep travel costs to a minimum. The research is available in the Know Before You Go section of the website at www.aph.com/lowcostextracharges.

The research compares the extra charges imposed by budget airlines flying from UK airports, including checking-in fees, excess baggage fees, credit card charges, seat reservation charges and costs for cancelling or making changes to the flight.

With regards to checking-in, most airlines were found to offer free online check-in apart from Jet2.com which charges £1.00 per flight and Ryanair, which charges £6.00 per person, per one way flight. If checking-in at the airport or through a call-centre, then the cost was found to vary with Jet2.com charging a fee of £6.00 per flight, BMI Baby charging £11.00 per person, per flight and Ryanair charging £12.00 per person, per flight. Passengers flying with Ryanair should be careful when checking-in online, however, as if customers forget to bring their printed boarding pass, then Ryanair will issue a ‘boarding pass reissue penalty’ fee of £40 per person, per one way flight.

Most airlines were also found to include an ‘admin fee’ with easy Jet replacing its booking fee earlier this year, with a £9.00 administration fee for every booking. BMI Baby, however, charges £8.00 per passenger for online bookings and £11.00 at the airport or through a call centre. Ryanair do not charge anything for online bookings but £20.00 per passenger, per one way flight when booked at the airport or through a call centre, adding £40.00 to each booking.

Costs for checked-in baggage were also found to vary greatly, with Ryanair announcing an increase in their fees during 2012. During the peak periods of June, July, August, September and Christmas in 2012, the airline will increase its checked-in baggage fee from £20 to £25 per bag for all online bookings. Customers checking-in two bags of 15kg from June to September will be charged £50 per bag.

Some of the airlines have also now introduced a fee for reserving seats with Jet2.com charging from £2.49 per flight, Ryanair charging £10.00 one way and BMI Baby £11.00 per person, per one way flight when paid for at the airport or through a call centre. Extra legroom seats are also now available, ranging from £3 to £25 depending on which seat is chosen.

www.aph.com or call 01342 859515 .

*Research is compiled from information available on all airport websites and is correct as of April 2012

40 MILES OF COINS = NEW RAILWAY!

Over the weekend of the 30th June/1st July the Wensleydale Railway is holding a coin challenge at its Leeming Bar Station to coincide with the Railway’s 9th anniversary of re-opening. The aim is to eventually collect enough coins to stretch for 40 miles – the original length of the line – and use the funds raised to improve the track on the stretch of line from Leeming Bar to the junction with the East Coast main line at Northallerton so that it can be used by passenger trains.

Ken Monkman, the Wensleydale Railway Association’s fund raiser, said ‘This is a fun way to generate important funding for this worthwhile project. We need people to start collecting coins now, so that we can lay as many as possible on the platform at the station on our special weekend. 1p and 2p coins are very welcome, although we are happy to take larger denominations!’ Coins can be donated at Leeming Bar Station any time before the event.

There will be a special anniversary fare for everyone who brings us some coins for the challenge.

Birmingham, UK, – Green Room Retail, leading expert providers of retail solutions including retail design, point-of-purchase, shop-in-shop and flagship store design, has been chosen by Global sports accessories brand Oakley to be its European creative partner.

The appointment will see the Birmingham-based retail design and delivery practice develop visual merchandising campaigns throughout Oakley’s European franchise network (a total of 55 outlets across 12 countries). They will also design and install a major window display at the brand’s flagship Covent Garden store.

Delivered from paper to store in just two weeks, the execution features an oversized action image of a surfer reflected in the mirrored lens of a pair of giant 3D Jupiter sunglasses. The design is deliberately engineered to overcome the logistical challenges posed by the 19th Century architecture of the London site, in particular the stone-framed multi-panel windows, while still providing a visual standout across the world-famous piazza.

Ross Adam, Green Room’s senior account director responsible for the project, comments:

“This project presented a great opportunity to create a bold design that not only showcases the product but punches above its weight to capture the attention of the millions of shoppers and tourists frequenting one of London’s most popular locations.

“Oakley is an iconic brand with a strong heritage and a fun, irreverent attitude and we’re thrilled the team there have put their faith in Green Room to convey this across their UK and European retail estate.”

Oakley is the latest brand to be added to Green Room’s fast expanding client list, joining the likes of Citroen, Timberland, Nike, Mercedes-Benz and Sony PlayStation. According to Design Week’s Top 100 Consultancy Survey, Green Room is the UK’s fastest growing retail design and delivery practice.

London, United Kingdom, (27th March, 2012) – Winkworth, the estate agency group, comment on chancellor George Osbourne’s recent announcement that properties sold for over £2million will be subject to a stamp duty charge of 7%, an increase of 2%.

Mr Osbourne also confirmed that properties over the £2million mark bought through a company would be subject to a 15% charge. The Chancellor reported that the people who are buying the most expensive houses should contribute more to the stamp duty tax, as part of the government’s efforts to put an end to people avoiding the tax.

According to The Land Registry, in November 2011 there were 121 homes sold for more than £2million in England and Wales. These sales accounted for just 0.2% of the homes sold in the month. Of these homes, 98 of the properties were in London, which equates to 80.1%.

Dominic Agace, CEO of Winkworth PLC, responds to the Chancellor’s announcement:

“According to the Rightmove portal, there are around 2,000 properties currently for sale at the £2million+ mark. Given this relatively low volume, I question whether raising the Stamp Duty on properties at this level will have any notable impact when it comes to raising funds – especially when there is so much leakage in the system, with property transactions at this level often going via offshore banks.

“Despite the economic climate, property transactions at the £2million+ level have been incredibly stable in the Capital. I believe raising Stamp Duty on these properties will simply serve to lower transactions, pricing out families looking to upsize and leaving only the investors and super-rich foreign buyers who will hold on to properties long-term. The end result will be a stagnant market and higher prices. Surely, this is counter-productive?”

Stockport, UK (09 February, 2012) – Trolex, a leading supplier and manufacturer of gas detection, machine condition monitoring, environmental control and gas recovery monitoring systems to the utilities industry, announces that their Sentrum system has been specified for an EU-funded methane extraction project focusing on accelerating the development of energy technologies towards cost-effectiveness; for a more sustainable energy economy for Europe.

Coal mining is a major industry in China and India, yet coal mine methane drainage is employed with relatively low yields of gas and purity. Two gassy coal mines in China and a coal mine with recent coal mine methane experience in a coalfield in India have been selected as pilot sites for the project.

The project is jointly carried out with the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College, London. The aim of the project is to achieve significant improvements in methane drainage efficiency and purity to demonstrate European know-how and develop the necessary technologies to achieve this objective.

Sentrum systems utilise state-of-the-art software to deliver the most accurate and reliable methane recovery monitoring on the market today. Methane is now a valuable commodity. It is also an extremely potent and dangerous greenhouse gas yet its capture and utilisation can have enormous environmental, economic and social benefits.

Trolex will also provide a mine upcast ventilation shaft airflow and methane concentration monitoring system to assist with a ventilation air methane utilisation system research and feasibility assessment. A data communication system will also be installed to log and transmit the data continuously to the UK for analysis.

Funded under the 7th Framework Programme, it aims to enhance the dynamism, creativity and excellence of European research at the frontier of knowledge in all scientific and technological fields, including engineering, socio-economic sciences and the humanities.

As well as supplying equipment to the project, Trolex will be providing methane monitoring advice to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Until now, most methane recovery monitoring systems have been inaccurate due to the presence of other gases and compounds in the gas mixture which can fool conventional sensors into errors of up to 30% and sometimes even more. These kinds of errors can endanger lives and damage valuable equipment and machinery, which can lead to problems with regulatory authorities.

Sentrum utilises proven technology to deliver bespoke, high accuracy solutions to suit specific requirements. Trolex is the only company in the world to manufacture and support a methane recovery monitoring system that functions across all industries, for all applications, putting them at the forefront of the Clean Development Mechanism, gas-to-energy and safety monitoring movements.

Further details are available from Trolex Ltd., on 0161 483 1435, email sales@trolex.com or by visiting the company’s website at www.trolex.com.

About Trolex:
Established in 1959, Trolex have become one of the world’s most trusted manufacturers of gas detectors, gas detection systems and hazardous area safety monitoring systems and sensors. They have an impressive catalogue of safety monitoring technology, but are constantly looking for new ways to improve the safety of those working in potentially hazardous environments. All of their sensors and systems are independently accredited ensuring top performance and increased safety.
