Bath Christmas Market – Dates Extended for 2010

25 November – 12 December

Due to popular demand, the organisers of Bath Christmas Market, Bath Tourism Plus, have arranged for the festive event to be extended well into December.

Bath’s extremely popular Christmas market, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, has previously attracted over 200,000 people from all over Britain and overseas during its 11 days duration. This year, there is an extra week in which to enjoy the festive atmosphere and top quality shopping, and with the dates extending closer to Christmas, everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the event at their leisure.

Set in the stunning surroundings of Bath’s historic centre, right next to Bath Abbey and the World renowned Roman Baths, Bath Christmas Market really is the Christmas Shopping event that should not be missed.

123 local and regional retailers offer their wares in quaint wooden chalet style stalls, giving visitors the ideal opportunity to acquire that perfect Christmas gift. Set off with atmospheric entertainment and with the aroma of roasted nuts and Gluhwein in the air, there couldn’t be a better way to ease into the Christmas celebrations.

Bath Tourism Plus’ Chief Executive, Robin Bischert says: ‘Its good news that the Council have agreed to allow us to extend the dates of Bath Christmas Market into December. For the main feature of the city’s festive celebrations to finish at the beginning of December has been an issue for a while, and many of the city centre retailers, as well as visitors to the event and stallholders have expressed their wish for the event to continue further into the Christmas shopping season.’

The popularity of Bath Christmas Market has had its draw backs for the city in previous years, with pressure on the transport system being evident due to the huge increase in visitors to the City Centre being the major one. However, with the dates extended this year, people have the opportunity to come at their leisure.

Event Organiser Victoria Spriggs comments: ‘Although we are sure that the extra days will attract some additional shoppers to the city, we are expecting that the extended dates will allow a more even spread throughout the 18 days, bringing some relief to the transport systems.’
